Other notable work

Here are a few more examples of work I’ve done, highlighting my expertise in content creation, SEO, and business support for small businesses.

Content and blog posts

Alpkit: Blog post

Alpkit asked me to write a feature for their ‘Treasured moments section. I had a lot of fun putting together a story about bikepacking in the Outer Hebrides, with storytelling to engage readers and inspire adventure. The post is about finding the best beach in the world, but it has a twist.

The Outdoor City: Outdoor-related blog posts

I was commissioned by Sheffield City Council for a series of tourism-focused blog posts. These covered climbing, walking, and mountain biking in the Peak District, providing engaging content for readers and optimising the website for search. The posts helped increase online visibility for the city’s outdoor attractions.

Marketing and SEO support

Safe and Supported: Keyword research and content editing

Philippa, a Bristol-based transformational life coach, wanted help identifying her target audience and SEO keywords. I researched and recommended keywords, gave guidance on content use, and suggested editing improvements to make her website and blog more discoverable. This strategic support helped her clarify her messaging and connect with the right clients online.

Peak Cycling UK: Marketing content

I created online marketing content to promote a new cycling holiday in Scotland. The work included short-form social media content and guest blogging using my network of contacts to help the business reach the right audience.

Research and Editorial Projects

AA Publishing: Walking guidebook - 50 Walks in the Peak District

I was commissioned to research, field check, and rewrite a selection of walks in this popular AA walking guidebook. I walked each route to ensure accuracy with clear instructions and engaging descriptions. Working within strict deadlines and editorial standards, this work demonstrated meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.

JR Nicholls Publishing: Proofreading and guidebook writing

After writing Walking in the Upper Dearne Valley for JR Nicholls Publishing, I was asked to proofread and edit Castles of Eden for another of their writers, Mark Richards. I checked for continuity, grammar, and clarity - maintaining the author’s voice while enhancing readability. The guidebook written in my own name ranked #6 in the Top 10 non-fiction books at Read Holmfirth bookshop in August 2019.

TGO Magazine: Magazine article

Published magazine article on a walking route in The Quantocks. It included researching the route, field checking, mapping, and writing content in line with the magazine’s editorial style guidelines and deadline. The article provided readers with accurate and interesting information about the area, while showcasing my ability to manage complete editorial projects.
